National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Oru-East LGA chapter has recognized Honourable Edwin Chibuzor Okolie as the “Pillar of the Youths”.
Speaking on the occasion which took place last Saturday at the Council Hall of Oru-East LGA headquarters, Honourable Okolie who doubled as the chairman of the occasion admonished them to be of good behaviour and avoid activities that will not be helpful to them and the society at large, if they want to make it in life.
“I am a youth like all of you. We all have to be diligent in everything we do and avoid those things that will not be helpful to our area, Imo state and to the nation at large.
“We can’t be counted in any meaningful activity if become a nuisance to the society. It is not about money, but the aura and dignity you carry and attached to yourself that makes one very responsible and recognized in the society”.
Furthermore, Okolie who is the Chairman /Chief Executive of Edizwine Bar, a popular entertainment place in Port- Harcourt Rivers state, told the members of the Council that their challenges are his too, but that together they shall conquer all those things that bother them.
“I thank the guest lecturer, Rev. Fr. Dr. Nick Obiomachukwu Ejimabo for the wonderful lecture on “Nigerian Youth and the Quest for Better Future: Realities, Challenges, Prospects; he presented. It is an eye opener and I describe it as a responsible challenge to all of us and which all should be taken seriously. Your challenges are mine too and together we shall conquer”.
Presenting the award to Edwin Okolie, the Chairman, NYCN, Imo state chapter, Comrade Isdore Chukwuemeka, thanked Okolie for making it to the event irrespective of his schedule, adding it showed his interest on the issues concerning his people. He said the award to him is well deserved, stating his nomination was devoid of any monetary inducement or lobbing, but was done out of sincerity and unity of purpose.
Responding after receiving the award, Okolie who is a House of Representative hopeful for Orlu/Orsu/Oru-East Federal Considered seat come 2019, appreciated the recognition as it came from his own people, which according to him was as a result of his little contributions towards the upliftment of his fellow youths in the area, even as he charged them to always call him when the need arise.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Coordinator of the LGA chapter, Comrade Vitalis Mmadu, informed, the event, apart from the confirmation of awards to some deserving personalities who have distinguished themselves in all angles, that it was also put in place to inaugurate the council and Wards executive members, including the investiture of Patrons and lecture series.
The Coordinator appealed to his members to always respect themselves in all activities wherever they find themselves for their own good, pointing out that those to be honoured were chosen on merit without any “string attached”.
Many dignitaries attended the event among whom were: Honourable Nkenna John Nzeruo, member representing Oru-East state constituency in the Imo state House of Assembly, Comrade Chibuike Ugory, Secretary, NYCN, Imo state chapter, Prince Chukwuemeka Uba, Ikemba, National President, Ohanaeze Youth Foundation, Nigeria, OYFN and Comrade Chika Okechukwu.
